Kicking Ice : A Graphic Novel About Women's Hockey

Kicking Ice is about two young, female hockey players, Bella and Skye, learning to play hockey and dreaming of one day playing in the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL). Unfortunately, Bella and Skye deal with bullies who think that playing hockey isn’t for girls. Of course, Bella and Skye prove that kicking ice isn’t just for boys. This project is a celebration of women in sports and the amazing progress of the many pioneers who are helping to make professional women's hockey a reality.

Kicking Ice Stretch Goals
Our first stretch goal unlocks when we hit 20K. This means that, if we reach 20K, all physical copies of Kicking Ice will come with an illustrated, numbered, and signed bookplate.
Once we hit 25K, we will upgrade all hardcover copies of Kicking Ice to a fancy spot varnish cover. All you bookworms out there, we see you.
The third stretch goal will remain a mystery until we hit 25K. Who doesn't like a good mystery?

Part of what makes our project unique is the community that has reached out to help support this book in a plethora of different ways. From our social media champions, to other creators and even athletes, Kicking Ice is only possible with the support of amazing people like you.
One such member of our community has a Kickstarter that he is currently running for a graphic novel called Empty Space. This sci-fi mystery set against a starry backdrop boasts an incredible creative team and a thrilling story with all kinds of cool new alien species. The writer is Michael Jan Friedman, known for his prolific career writing both comics and prose, including many Star Trek novels. The artist is Caio Cacau, whose beautiful work speaks for itself.

What’s more, if you back Empty Space (for $8 or more) and Kicking Ice (for $10 or more), the writer behind Empty Space has promised to send backers a free sci-fi, fantasy, or superhero digital story.
